Abstract

Quantum entanglement has recently been observed in high-energy particle physics processes, exploring quantum information in relativistic regimes, but also posing conceptual and technical challenges in the interpretation of the results. In this talk, I will discuss spin-spin correlations in collider experiments from a quantum information perspective. Unlike in conventional quantum optics settings, the systems are relativistic and the particle momenta and measurements are not under active experimental control. Adapting methods from quantum information theory, we suggest enhanced ways to analyze entanglement and the soundness of the predictions from quantum field theory and the standard model in high-energy collider experiments. As a proof of concept we illustrate the application of our methods to top pair production in the LHC using Monte Carlo simulations.
